Looking Into Glass

A journal of questions, thoughts, ideas, and even a few answers that have shaped my journey so far. I seem to keep coming back to the same 2 questions: Who is God? Who am I?

Who Are You?

It's a simple but profound question. And it may sound like a bunch of philosophical garbish. However this question is about more than philosophy. This question is at the heart of everything about our lives. Here's why: How we live reflects our understanding of who we are. Our actions, attitudes, thoughts and desires reveal how we perceive ourselves.

And so if we cannot answer the question of our identity (Who am I?), then take a look at your lifestyle and choices and plans. What do those things tell you about you?

Here's a test. Consider how you lived your life the past five days:
Lifestyle Question: Did you plan ways to give? Or did you plan ways to get?
Identity Question: Are you a giver or a getter?
Lifestyle Question: Were your thoughts focused on hurting others? Or did you think of ways to help others?
Identity Question: Are you a relational breaker or a relational healer?
Lifestyle Question: Did you look for ways to serve others or for ways that others could serve you?
Identity Question: Are you a self-centered person or an others-centered person?
Lifestyle Question: Did you say helpful or hurtful words to others?
Identity Question: Are you an encourager or a critical person?
Lifestyle Question: Did you give more thanks or more gripes?
Identity Question: Are you a thankful person or a complainer?

Do you like the answers you are getting? Sometimes these moments clarify who we are. And often we are surprised at what we see. So who are you? Watch yourself for a few days. Let the reality of who you are sink in and find those areas where you need to change. Ask trusted friends for insight. And in the process, discover who you are. Its the first step toward wholeness.
