I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage that when you are going through difficult times you can always find someone who is worse off than you. It leads me to believe that there may be a “pecking order” of suffering out there somewhere. I mean if there is someone in a worse situation than I am, then that means that if he looks around like I did, then he will find someone worse off than him. Then that guy should look around and what will he discover? Someone is in a worse situation than he is. And on and on. If this philosophy is true, then that means that somewhere out there in the world is a guy who truly is the person in the worst situation in the world. What a bummer to be him!
But is it true? Is there someone out there who really is at the bottom of the barrel when it comes
to suffering? Is there someone out there who has it worst of all? Someone who is facing the grief of loss? And the pain of torture? Is there someone that everyone else can look at & say, "Man, I am so glad I'm not him?"
And my answer is: Yes.
Who has it worst of all?
God.
What? How does God have it worst of all? After all, why does He have to suffer? He's God. In fact, many would suggest that He's the reason that suffering even exists. But when you consider the mere fact that He knows everything going on around the world at any and every given moment means that He sees every violation of human justice and decency, that He witnesses every act of evil, and that He is aware of every situation where someone is being abused. Imagine carrying all of that in your heart day after day after day after day, for several thousand years. And having given the answer to it all with relatively little response.
People ask why God doesn't do something about the evil in our world & my response is that He has done something about it. The question is why don't we, humanity, do something about it?
Yep, if anyone is at the bottom of the suffering barrel, it's God.
